By designing our hubs and rims to work together we can create stronger, lighter designs where the forces are more equally shared between all the spokes. Our hubs use the latest DT internals with the 36-tooth ratchet system and upsized bearings, which have proven to offer the best reliability and performance.

STRAIGHT PULL SPOKES

On a wheel, locating the spokes close to the axis of rotation can improve the efficiency of power transmission, minimizing mechanical losses and maximizing the transfer of force from the rider to the wheel, which is key in XC. By introducing a Straight Pull spoke design in our new hub, we have achieved exactly that.

FRONT AND REAR SPECIFIC

Each wheel has a different job to do and experiences different forces. OQUO wheels use front and rear specific designs, that means considering rim profiles, spokes and build specifications carefully to maximise performance. It is more work but the benifits are clear.

ASYMMETRIC RIMS

Asymmetric rims allow us to make a more triangular shape with the spokes from each side of the rim, balancing the spoke lengths and tensions. This means each spoke takes an equal amount of strain. In short, asymmetric rims mean fewer spoke sizes, more balanced tensions, and stronger, more reliable wheels.

ANGLED SPOKE HOLES

Matching the angle of the spoke hole to the angle that the spoke leaves the rim at means that we can greatly reduce the stress at the spoke head. Implementing this technology requires added design and manufacturing work but the result is a far more reliable wheel with less chance of breaking spokes.

PINCH PROTECTION

On tubeless wheels, punctures happen when the tire is pinched between an external object and the edge of the rim. Increasing the width of the rim profile in these points greatly reduces the likelihood of these punctures.

REINFORCED SPOKE BEDS

There is more stress on a rim where the spokes exert tension. Reinforcing these areas increases the reliability of the rim without adding excessive weight.

UNIFORM SPOKE LENGTHS

By developing our hub, which matches our rims, we can achieve a uniform spoke length on both sides of the wheel. The result is a lighter, stiffer, and stronger wheel with fewer spoke lengths you need to carry for spares.

SECURE NIPPLE LOCK

We apply a custom threadlock liquid to each nipple individually. This liquid creates increased friction between the threaded part of the spoke and the nipple, eliminating the air between them, ensuring that the spokes don't lose tension, whilst allowing adjustments if needed.
